AmeriGas Propane Tank Class Action Settlement

Class Eligibility

You may be a member of the settlement if you are a U.S. resident who (a) directly bought an AmeriGas or Blue Rhino Propane Tank directly from AmeriGas or Blue Rhino by way of a vending machine installed at a retailer or other location, or (b) paid AmeriGas or Blue Rhino directly via vending machine installed at a retailer or other location, to exchange an already-purchased Propane Tank for an AmeriGas or Blue Rhino Propane Tank, excluding a wholesale purchase for reselling purposes, between December 1, 2009 and November 30, 2020.

Estimated Amount

$5.00 per tank (no limit to number of tanks for reimbursement as long as you have Proof of Purchase); or
$2.50 per tank (for a total of 50 tanks, if you have no proof of purchase, or a total of $125 without proof).

Case Summary

AmeriGas and Blue Rhino are accused of having improperly inflated the cost of propane to retail purchasers, when in 2008 they mutually agreed to lessen the amount of propane gas in the pre-filled propane tanks that they sold to customers, from 17 pounds down to 15 pounds, while keeping the previous price of the tanks.
