Case Name: | Steven Brody, et al. vs. Merck & Co., Inc., et al., Case No. 12-cv-4774-PGS-DEA |
Case Summary: |
The Plaintiffs sued the makers of Coppertone sunscreen claiming that the product falsely claimed to protect against UVA and UVB. Coppertone (a Merck company) denies the claim. Five lawsuits involving this issue have been dragging on since 2003. The parties decided to settle the litigation. We are not sure how this litigation dragged on so long. It seems like the case is straight forward, either Coppertone protects against UVA and UVB or it doesn’t. And as consumers we would like an answer. Does Coppertone actually protect against UVA and UVB or have we been out in the sun unprotected. Instead of an answer we are getting a $1.50 – so you might get melanoma but at least you can buy some gum. |
