Class Eligibility:

Purchasers of a Carfax Vehicle History Report directly from Carfax:

  • Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, or Texas – from October 1, 1998 to December 31, 2007
  • North Carolina – from May 1, 2001 to December 31, 2007
  • California – from February 17, 2002 to December 31, 2007
Estimated Amount:

One voucher for a Carfax Vehicle History. The voucher can be converted to $3 in cash.

Converting the voucher to cash is limited to the first 216,000 applicants.

Yes. Requires email address and purchase date for Carfax.

Case Summary:

The plaintiffs sued Carfax for violating consumer protection laws by not properly disclosing the terms, conditions, and limitations of Carfax reports. Carfax denies the allegations, but settled the case before a court decided the matter.

This was a major win for consumers. A $3 settlement that requires you to print out a paper claim form, fill it in (including going into your email to figure out the exact date or the purchase (the settlement dates back to 1998) if you still kept it, get an envelope and a stamp, and take it to a mailbox.
